Distillery Tour FAQs

What do the experiences cover?

We have 3 options depending how in-depth you want to get about our story and our distillery production processes. Please Note that our Behind The Scenes Distillery Tour is the only one that has access to the Distillery Production Area and our Warehouse. All 3 options have access to our stunning Tasting Room where you can relax with a brilliant view.

Behind The Scenes Distillery Tour

Step into the heart of 8 Doors Distillery with our exclusive Behind the Scenes tour. You'll get an up-close look at how we craft our whisky, starting in the Distillery Production Area, where we take you through the key stages — Mashing, Fermentation, and Distillation. From there, we’ll guide you into our traditional dunnage-style warehouse, where our casks rest and mature to perfection.

The experience wraps up in our Tasting Room, where you can take in stunning views while sampling our New Make Spirit, enjoying two expressions of our Seven Sons whisky, and discovering the unique character of our Five Ways blended liqueur.

Wee Taster Whisky Experience

Short on time but keen to explore the world of whisky? Our Wee Taster Whisky Experience is the perfect introduction, offering a relaxed yet insightful guided tasting in our beautiful Tasting Room, where you can soak in stunning views while discovering the spirit of 8 Doors Distillery.

Led by our knowledgeable guide, Susan, you'll hear the story behind 8 Doors as you sample two expressions of our Seven Sons whisky and experience the unique character of our Five Ways blended liqueur.

If you’re new to whisky, Susan will guide you through the art of whisky tasting—helping you identify aromas, flavours, and how to truly appreciate every sip. Whether you're a beginner or simply looking to enjoy a short but memorable whisky experience, this tasting is designed for you.

Tales & Tipples Experience

Settle in, sip, and let the stories unfold. Tales & Tipples is a relaxed and entertaining whisky experience where the focus is on storytelling rather than whisky production. Hosted in our cozy Tasting Room with breathtaking views, this 45-minute session invites you to enjoy a carefully crafted drink while being regaled with captivating local legends.

Our guide, Susan, will bring the local area's rich history and folklore to life, sharing the story behind 8 Doors Distillery, the legend of The Swelkie swirling in the Pentland Firth just beyond our windows, and more tales of the sea, land, and people that have shaped this rugged coastline.

As you listen, you can choose from:
🍈A Ginger Highball (Seven Sons Whisky & Ginger Beer)
🍊 A Clementine Fizz (Five Ways Liqueur & St Clements Lemonade)
☕ A comforting coffee
🥃 Or three whisky samples for those who prefer to savour a dram

Whether you're a whisky lover or simply enjoy a good story, Tales & Tipples is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the magic of our surroundings while enjoying a drink in great company.

Behind The Scenes Distillery Tour

The majority of the Behind The Scenes Distillery Tour is on one level and can be accessed with a wheelchair.  However, the tasting room is up a flight of 7 steps and is therefore currently inaccessible by wheelchair. If you are using a wheelchair or won’t be able to manage the steps to the tasting room, please contact us to book your tour and we can reserve space in our whisky lounge for your samples and tasting at the end of the tour. Contact us by email here.

In the distillery production area there is a platform around the stills which is only accessible via steps and forms a small part of this section of the tour. The stills can still be viewed from ground level.

I will be driving or don’t want to sample the whisky can I get a cheaper price?

We have a set price for our tours which includes the samples so cannot offer a discount if you don’t wish to taste the samples. If you are driving we will give you a miniature bottle of one of our products to take home with you instead. If someone in your group doesn’t want to sample whisky or take part in the tour there’s lots of shops and some lovely local walks to pass the time while you are on the tour. We have great coffee, cakes and soft drinks in our lounge area too - they can sit back and enjoy the view from there.

Do you allow dogs?

No, we’re sorry but your four-legged friends aren’t able to join you in the distillery or whisky lounge. We’ll soon have space outside with tables where dogs are welcome but we only allow guide dogs inside the distillery.

I have another question not covered here, what do I do?

Please contact the distillery team and we’ll be happy to help. You can email us here or give us a call.
