John Ramsay has worked with the 8 Doors Distillery team to develop the 874 Founders Club Cask offering. John has 43 years industry experience where he was responsible for some of Scotland’s most well-known whiskies including The Glenrothes, Highland Park and The Macallan.
Focusing on the importance of wood and how it influences the development of whisky characteristics during maturation, the 874 Founders Club cask packages provide an unmissable opportunity to become part of a new scotch legacy.
“We are developing a flavour profile that brings to life the local climate and the influence of the sea. Once the spirit has been matured on-site in carefully selected first-fill casks designed to our specifications in Spain, I believe we will be bringing something original to the world of whisky from this remote part of the Highlands of Scotland.”
Why 8 Doors Distillery?
Our name is inspired by the legend surrounding Jan De Groot - the man that John O’Groats takes it’s name from - and his seven sons. In particular the house he built on the site near the John O’Groats house hotel, a short distance from our distillery.

As the most northerly distillery on the UK mainland, the distillery location in the small coastal village of John O’Groats, Scotland is perfect for maturing whisky. Panoramic views of the Pentland Firth provide a stunning backdrop to the distillery.
Famous as part of the iconic 874 mile Land’s End to John O’Groats road trip, the journey inspired the Founders Club name.
8 Doors Distillery will be opening their doors in summer 2021. This exclusive cask offer partnership with Whisky Hammer gives you the chance to be part of whisky history and own some of the first whisky produced in John O’Groats in over 180 years.
With only 200 casks available this limited edition offer will be fulfilled on a first come, first served basis.

Once your order is confirmed we’ll send your confirmation of ownership and membership card. Your copper membership card entitles you to free tours for life. We believe whisky is for sharing, so you can bring a friend for free too.
Whisky Journey Pack
We’ll send you a display stave to mark the start of your whisky journey. The stave is made of virgin oak to represent the beginning of your casks journey and comes with vials of barley, yeast and water so it reflects the end to end process that will deliver your final whisky. Adding one of your cask samples to the display slots each year will build a wonderful picture of your whisky’s journey.
Launch Pack
We’ll send you a 200ml bottle of new make spirit straight from the stills once we start production so you can get a preview of the flavours to come. This pack also includes everything you need to enjoy your first taste - a branded glass, coaster and water dropper. Not forgetting the first sample bottle to add to your stave.

Whisky Hammer will confirm your order with the 8 Doors Distillery team who will then contact you by email to provide your cask order confirmation and unique cask reference number.
Whilst you wait for your cask to be filled, the team will follow up with your 874 Founders Club benefits as follows:

We will email your Cask Order Confirmation detailing the size of cask, wood type and seasoning selected along with your unique cask reference number.

Who’s behind 8 Doors Distillery?
8 Doors Distillery is a small, independent distillery founded by husband and wife team Derek and Kerry Campbell. The couple have had a passion for whisky for many years, and in 2018 embarked on a journey to create their own whisky distillery in the Scottish Highlands. With support from family, friends and the local community they are building their distillery on their dream site in John O’Groats.
They’re delighted to be working with and learning from such an expert as John Ramsay to produce the first whisky from 8 Doors Distillery.
We love whisky.
For us it’s more than just having an exceptional liquid in your glass. It’s also about the stories that go alongside your dram, the memories of special occasions and get-togethers with friends and family.
We love where we live.
It’s a very special corner of Scotland with endless skies and miles of breath-taking coastline. We’ve lived here all of our lives and dreamed of one day opening our own whisky distillery.
